FAQ's

  • Who needs BRA?

Breast cancer is scary – there's no denying it. After diagnosis there can be a lot on your plate between doctor's appointments and treatments. Along the way, it's easy to forget to do things for YOU -- so BRA is here to provide that.

If you need community – we have that for you. If you need movement – we can provide it. Confused about what to eat – we can help translate all the information. Whatever you need along your journey, BRA is here to help.

  • How much does it cost to join BRA?

BRA is funded 100% by donations. We encourage those who are able to contribute in any amount, at any time, but it is not required. Some members donate a little as they go along; others wait to make a gift when they are able to pay it forward. For those struggling financially, we welcome your smiling face and encouragement as your contribution.

  • What should I do after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis?

There is no right or wrong path, as everyone processes things differently and has different circumstances. However, finding a community of other survivors as soon as possible can help you navigate this strange new world.

In a BRA group, you’ll find others who have the same type of breast cancer, are close to your age and family status, and who will share their personal experiences with various types of surgeries, reconstruction, and treatment plans.

  • What is a Breast Cancer survivorship action plan?

A breast cancer diagnosis is often a defining moment; the proverbial “line in the sand.” It can cause us to reflect on what we really want our life to be like, and what changes we may need to make to achieve the life we desire.

BRA’s emotional wellness curriculum concludes with a “vision” or “action” plan, where participants use the tools they’ve learned in the nine-week small group discussions to create a specific outline of what they want life after cancer to look like.

  • What can I do in BRA if I’ve had surgery?

Anything you want! Once cleared by your surgeon, our personal trainers can help you regain range of motion and strength. The exercise groups are designed to help you gradually get back to doing everything you did before surgery. We know from experience you may not feel up to a workout during chemo or radiation, so each session is tailored to meet you where you are.

Research has shown that those who keep moving during treatment tolerate it better than those who are sedentary, so we’ve got you covered – group walks, stretching, gentle resistance, and more will add TO your energy levels, not subtract!

  • How can BRA help if I have Metastatic Breast Cancer?

BRA hosts a monthly meetup for those living with MBC, providing a safe place to share the things unique to this situation. In addition, we welcome any stage of diagnosis in our exercise groups and can tailor a program for any limitations that may exist. Our nutrition class series is helpful to all survivors, and we offer one-on-one consultations with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for specific nutritional guidance.

BRA’s mission is to empower all survivors by creating communities whose members grow in strength, resilience, and joy – something we believe is possible regardless of diagnosis!
