What's your WOTY?

With the new year in full swing, many people are diligently working towards their New Year's Resolutions. However, the pressure to achieve specific, often ambitious, goals can sometimes be overwhelming. If you've ever felt discouraged by this, perhaps it's time to consider an alternative approach.

Have you ever heard of a Word Of The Year, or WOTY? This concept is a way to give the new year direction without feeling overwhelmed by setting a specific goal.

Understanding Word of the Year (WOTY)

At its core, a WOTY is a one-word theme that helps guide your daily actions in the year ahead. Think of it as your personal mantra, or how you want to feel throughout the year. For example, in 2024, your word could be something like "Grow", "Courageous", or "Balance". This word is not a measurable goal, but rather a guiding principle that encompasses your aspirations for the year.

The Benefits of WOTY

The beauty of choosing a Word of the Year lies in its simplicity. It frees you from the pass/fail mentality often associated with resolution setting. Instead of stressing over a specific outcome, you can use your WOTY as a guide in making decisions around the things you want to change or accomplish. This could pertain to any area of your life, whether it's related to food, fitness, health, finances, or personal development. Your WOTY helps keep you focused and aligned with your true intentions for the year.

Choosing Your WOTY

The key to choosing your Word of the Year is to find a word that resonates with you and aligns with your intentions for the year ahead. This could be an emotion you want to feel more often, an attribute you want to develop, or a state of being you aspire to attain. Here are some ideas for inspiration:

Joy | Fearless | Grateful | Aware | Calm | Balance | Learn | Grow | Decisive | Simplify | Courageous | Bold | Present | Health | Free | Forgive | Bright | Appreciate | Confident | Peace | Trust | Passionate | Happy | Consistent

Take your time in selecting your word. Reflect on what you want to achieve or focus on this year. Once you've chosen your WOTY, write it down, share it with a friend, or even wear a piece of jewelry with your guiding word. Visibly displaying it will help integrate it into your daily life, serving as a constant reminder of your intentions and aspirations.

So, what's your WOTY? Remember, this is not about achieving perfection but rather about moving in the direction that aligns with your personal growth and happiness. Here's to a year of intention and purpose!
