BRA Groups

Evidenced based nutrition guidelines to help you take charge of this next phase in your journey.

Do you have questions about what to eat after your breast cancer diagnosis or are you feeling overwhelmed by all of the information out there? Come join a BRA nutrition session! Created and led by our own registered dietitian nutritionist, Brittany Cardwell, these sessions are designed to help you:

  • Learn. Improve your understanding of the healthy eating guidelines for breast cancer survivors.
  • Take action. Be able to apply the recommendations to your lifestyle.
  • Be confident. Feel less overwhelmed about eating healthy and improve your sense of well-being.

BRA will be offering two nutrition sessions every month!  Each hour session will be focused on its own topic and consists of three parts: a topic review, Q+A, and an activity/recipe demonstration. Pre-registration is required for each session.

**Please note: Registration closes the Monday prior to the session date. You will receive the meeting link and class information by the Wednesday prior to the session you signed up for. We will not be going through the PowerPoint slide by slide during the session, so you are encouraged to review the information prior and come with questions.

Register for July and August Sessions

For July's sessions, we are excited to share the option for you to register to attend in person at Gilda's Club Middle Tennessee! If you live in Middle TN, and your schedule permits, this is a great opportunity to connect with fellow survivors in person and to join the virtually led session with a group (it is hosted at the same time!) If you choose to register for this option, you will receive an email the week of the session with additional details on where to meet.

Please note that there will NOT be evening sessions offered in the months of July and August. We hope you can join one or more of our morning sessions as this will be the last opportunity to attend these core Survivorship Nutrition topics this year!

Topic descriptions:

  • Eating the Rainbow: A diet rich in fruits and vegetables is a key aspect of a breast cancer survivorship diet. During this session, we’ll learn about how many fruits and vegetables we should be eating each day and discuss how to make sure we’re eating a colorful variety. We’ll also look at choosing between organic and conventional produce and the benefits and drawbacks of each.
  • Fueling with Fiber: A high-fiber diet has the potential to reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence. Find out how much fiber you should aim to fuel your body with each day and the foods you can eat to help reach your daily goal.
  • Picking Protein Sources: Protein plays a critical role in weight management and cell recovery. Gain a better understanding of your body’s daily protein needs and the best protein sources. We’ll look at plant and animal sources of protein and discuss where dairy and soy proteins fit into a healthy diet.

Candy Hunley, Founder & CEO of Ribbons & Roads, is a devoted wife and mother who turned her personal breast cancer journey into a mission of hope and empowerment. Diagnosed with stage 3B breast cancer at the age of 36, Candy navigated chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries while raising three young children. Her strength and compassion have become the driving force behind her work to support others on their healing journeys. In this video, Candy shares her journey of survival and how it inspired the creation of Ribbons & Roads, a mobile mastectomy service designed to meet women where they are, both physically and emotionally. Her story is a testament to resilience, compassion, and the power of turning challenges into opportunities to uplift others.
